Smartly, I had scheduled an entire office week after vacation so that I could catch up before heading out again, this time to conduct another round of training for Tarsadia Hotels in Santa Ana, CA.  When the time came I felt ready to go and was excited to be headed back to train the excellent staff of this call center, and to work with my friend Charles Young, who is their director of reservations.  My connection with this company goes back much further though, and I can still recall the day when Pat Patel, their VP of Marketing, first brought about 20 agents to attend one of my regional seminars, so it was especially rewarding to have them back on my client list and being a “poster child” for the success of our SAILS training that was installed there one year ago.  Here’s a picture of me with three of the four groups that day:

It was an especially interesting engagement based on my accommodations, which is a story in and of itself.  As it turned out the training dates coincided with a number of city-wide conventions, so that even the Tarsadia hotels in the region were sold out.  So instead I got to stay at the Hotel Queen Mary.  Now I must admit that upon first learning this news I was not thrilled, picturing it as more of a tourist hotel than a place for a business traveler.  But as it turns out the service was excellent, and despite that I didn’t see any of the ghosts reputed to haunt there frequently, it was interesting to think about the incredible history of this famous ship.  Here’s a picture of Hotel Queen Mary and also one of me on the deck:
